Jukido Jujitsu

Jukido is a traditional style of Jujitsu developed for the modern world with an emphasis on safety in practice and responsibility in application. Founded in 1959 by Master Paul Arel, Jukido synthesizes principles of Judo, Jujitsu, Aiki-jitsu, Karate & weaponry in such a way that techniques of one art do not conflict with those of another.  Jukido’s technical emphasis is practical, realistic and effective self-defense.

We teach Jukido students how to talk their way out of a fight if at all possible.  However, when it is necessary to defend oneself or others, Jukido enables one to use appropriate responses successfully, meaning that the level of the defense must match the severity and danger of the attack, and also consider the environment as well as the intentions of the attacker.  Jukido emphasizes self-defense techniques appropriate for each age group and for all types of situations, with and without weapons.   Jukido’s self-defense techniques progress from mild to severe, and empower practitioners to escape from attackers by controlling the situation with joint locks and throws, and if necessary, with chokes, strikes and kicking techniques.

While Jukido does include a sporting aspect similar to Judo called randori (free-play), our randori emphasis is not on beating an opponent but on doing one’s best and having fun.  Randori is not mandatory, and Jukido does not emphasize sport or tournaments.  We instill self-confidence in our students so they know that they can defend themselves if necessary, but do not need to prove it to anyone.  Jukido is appropriate for students ages 6 and up.
