Classes at the Concord Kokondo Academy

Senseis Len and Johanna Glazer have over 40 years of collective martial arts experience.  As a martial arts family, we believe that working, training, and playing together builds family bonds, trust, and respect while learning personal safety.  Martial arts training not only promotes an active and healthy lifestyle, it also provides a fun activity that the family can do together.

Classes at the Concord Kokondo Academy are designed to have adults and children training together in an integrated class. The adults’ section of the class focuses on practical, effective self-defense (and a good work-out) with strong traditional martial arts tailored to the individual student's abilities and activity level. Children focus on skills like balance, coordination, and body awareness through a mixture of traditional training and fun, specialized, active games.

We talk with our adult, adolescent, and child students about the power of using one's voice, non-violent conflict resolution, dealing with bullies, and making safe choices.  Other topics of discussion include internet safety, known offenders, stranger danger, and women’s self-defense issues.

A Typical Class at the Concord Kokondo Academy:

At the Concord Kokondo Academy students benefit from having both male and female internationally certified, second-degree black belt instructors.  Our structure allows for adults to receive high-quality martial arts training while the children have fun and learn self-defense with a highly-trained Kokondo instructor.

Quality martial arts training brings confidence, focus, self-discipline, sense of self and a healthy body image.  Kokondo students are taught not to compete with others but to compete only with oneself.   Doing one’s best, not only in the dojo, but in all daily activities, is a central aspect of the Kokondo philosophy.  Attention to detail, commitment and perfection of character are hallmark traits of any Kokondo dojo.
